This week’s toon shows a Lagos guy who got to the filling station, saw ₦1400 per litre, and said pure water is cheaper abeg.
It’s funny but it’s also our reality. Since the last few hikes, many people have reduced movement. Some now trek, some use bike, some just stay indoors.
The pure water in tank joke went viral because it describes how desperate things feel. When fuel was ₦200 we complained. At ₦1400 we are now inventing survival tactics.
Memes and comics have become how we cope. The laughter does not mean we are okay. It means we are tired.

The Real News Context
This comic comes after NNPC retail stations adjusted petrol price to between ₦1380 and ₦1420 per litre on Monday, August 31, 2026. Independent marketers in some areas are selling up to ₦1450.
According to NNPC, the increase is due to rising global crude oil prices and exchange rate pressure. In their statement they said the adjustment reflects current market realities.
Nigerians are asking different questions. The Nigeria Labour Congress has condemned the hike and called it another burden on citizens. Transport unions in Lagos have increased fares by 30% to 50%. A trip that was ₦500 last month is now ₦800 to ₦1000.
On social media, #FuelPrice and #Nigeria are trending with thousands of reactions. Some people support the government’s long term plan, while most are asking for palliatives and salary review.
Economists warn that this will push food prices and inflation higher in September. For now, the only thing going down fast is the fuel gauge.
