Federal Government don tok say today weybi Thursday August 13, 2026, by 5pm na the last time Nigerians fit tok their mind for the new National Policing Bill.
The Ogbonge mata inside the bill na STATE POLICE mata.
Femi Gbajabiamila, wey be Chief of Staff for Oga Presido and Chairman of the group wey dey work on this bill, announce am yesterday say government won hear from everybody first before dem go carry the thing go next level.

Government say from now till 5pm today, any Nigerian, any group, any NGO, any traditional ruler, fit send their own tok. You fit tok wetin you like, wetin you no like, wetin you want dem add, wetin you won dem remove.
Na Why dem dey do this? Because dem know say this state police mata na big mata. E fit change how security dey work for Naija.
For years now, people don dey fight about am for TV, radio, Twitter, WhatsApp groups. Some people say "Yes, mak we get am." Some people say "No, e go cause wahala."

WHY PEOPLE DEY DEMAND STATE POLICE

Right now, Nigeria get only one police. Na Nigeria Police Force. The IGP dey sit for Abuja. All command, all order dey come from there.
If wahala happen for Sokoto, dem go call Abuja first. If cult people dey kill people for Port Harcourt, the DPO go dey wait for instruction.
State governments dey try help. Dem dey buy patrol vans, dem dey build police station, dem dey give money for fuel. But dem no get power to command the police.
The new bill won change that one.
If e pass, every state go fit get their own police. Police wey governor fit tok to. Police wey know the area. Police wey fit speak the language. Police wey go reach crime scene in 10 minutes, not 2 hours later.

PEOPLE WEY SUPPORT AM DEY TOK SAY...
See, Nigeria problem no be the same everywhere.
For Borno, na Boko Haram and ISWAP dey disturb people.
For Zamfara, Katsina, Niger, na bandits dey kidnap school children.
For Benue and Plateau, na farmer and herder fight.
For Lagos, na traffic robbery and yahoo boys.
For South East, na unknown gunmen.
For Niger Delta, na pipeline wahala.
One police dey try handle all these different wahala. E no dey easy.

Number 1: Quick Response

Number 2: Better Information
You go fit trust police wey be your neighbor. Police wey sabi your language. Police wey know say that okada man na cultist. People go fit give information freely because dem trust the officer.
Number 3: Governor go Answer
If state police misbehave, you fit vote out the governor next election. Right now, if police beat person for Enugu, who you go hold? IGP for Abuja no sabi you.
Professors, retired police officers, even some governors don talk say Nigeria don too big for one police. Dem dey point to America, dem get state police. Germany get am. India get am. Even South Africa get am. And e dey work.
Dem dey say: "Local problem need local solution."
BUT PEOPLE WEY DEY FEAR AM DEY ASK QUESTION
But wait first. No be everybody dey happy.
The biggest fear na politics.
People dey ask: Wetin go happen if governor use state police to fight opposition?
Wetin go happen if governor say "Arrest that journalist wey write bad thing about me"?
Wetin go happen during election if governor use state police to chase opposition party members?
That fear dey real because we don see small version of am before with some state security outfits.
People also dey fear other things:
Money Mata: Who go pay these new police? Federal Government dey owe salary already. If 36 states start to pay their own police, where the money go come from? Rich state like Lagos go get fine police with new cars. Poor state go get police wey no get boot. Is that fair?
Training Mata: Who go train them? We no want situation where police for one state go dey torture people, while police for another state dey professional.
Who get Power: If state police and federal police meet for one operation and dem disagree, who go get final say?
Tribe Mata: Some people fear say governors fit employ only people from their own tribe and state. That one fit cause more division.
All these na serious question. And na why government say make una come talk.

1. How we go prevent governor from abusing state police
2. How we go fund am
3. How we go recruit and train them
4. How state police and federal police go work together
5. Wetin be the role of community leaders and traditional rulers
All the messages, emails, letters wey people send today go help them amend the bill. Dem fit add new rules. Dem fit remove some parts.
WHY THIS MATA COME HOT NOW
Make we no lie ourselves. The reason everybody dey shout about state police now na because insecurity don too much.
Just this week:
- Bandits enter school for Kogi during NECO exam and carry principal go
- Navy rescue 13 people for Kogi road
- Police find 9 dead bodies for Niger road
For many places, when you call police, dem dey come after everything don happen. Sometimes dem no even come.
Mama for village go say: "If we get our own police for this community, those boys no go fit operate like this."
That na the pain wey dey push this debate.
IMPORTANT: STATE POLICE NO START TOMORROW

Then because police dey inside Constitution as "Federal matter," dem go need to change the Constitution. That one mean 24 out of 36 state houses of assembly must agree too.
That whole process fit take 6 months, 1 year, even 2 years.
So calm down. But at the same time, no sleep. Today na your chance to tok.
WETIN GO HAPPEN AFTER 5PM?

Step 1: Dem go gather all the submissions
Step 2: Dem go use una advice to change the bill
Step 3: Dem go carry am go National Assembly
Step 4: Dem go change Constitution if dem agree
Step 5: If everything ok, then states fit start to form their own police
So governors, lawyers, police experts, human rights people, student groups, market associations — everybody get work to do in the next stage.
THE BIG QUESTION BE THIS
The main question wey we need answer na:
Can Nigeria get state police wey go protect us, without turning to governor private army?
That na the wahala.
People wey support am say: "We no get choice again. Insecurity don kill us. Make we try something new."
People wey oppose am say: "First go fix Nigeria Police. Give them money. Give them equipment. Train them well. Before you go create 37 different police."
Both sides get point.
